The Massachusetts Maritime and MASCAC communities gathered together on Thursday morning to celebrate "Coach Bob Corradi Day" at the Academy with a special breakfast and awards ceremony in honor of his 37 years of service as Head Baseball Coach as well as his 500th career victory that came last month.
Coach Corradi was feted by dozens of colleagues, coaches, administrators, friends and former players at the event, including his wife Kathy, Massachusetts Maritime President Admiral Richard G. Gurnon, Bridgewater State Director of Athletics John Harper and Framingham State Director of Athletics Tom Kelley.
Matt Duggan '09, who serves as the Regimental Commander for the Academy's Corps of Cadets, presented Coach Corradi with a plaque from the cadet corps in honor of his 500th victory, which came in an 8-0 triumph over Framingham State on April 10th. "Coach C" is one of 30 active coaches in NCAA Division III play to reach the 500-win plateau, and he has coached in over 1,300 career combined games during his tenure at Massachusetts Maritime, including 302 as an assistant football coach under Buccaneer mentors Don Ruggeri, Joe Domingos and Jeremy Cameron, all of which were present for the ceremony.
Coach Corradi, a three-time selection as MASCAC Coach of the Year, will bring 505 victories into his 38th campaign on the Buccaneer diamond in the spring of 2010.
