Buzzards Bay, Mass. --  The Massachusetts Maritime Academy Department of Athletics today announced its Fall 2012 Athletic Director’s Honor Roll for the recently completed Fall 2012 semester, as 117 Buccaneer student-athletes (the highest number in school history) were recognized for their performances in the classroom, a total that represents nearly 33 percent of the total student-athlete population at the Academy.  To be eligible for selection to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll, student-athletes must have achieved a 3.00 grade point average during the recently completed semester of matriculation.

Freshmen Sarah Lewis (Deer Park, Ill./Barrington) and Judson Yerkes (West Barnstable, Mass./Blue Ridge School), who compete for their respective Buccaneer crew squads, along with junior softball standout Amanda Tine (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford), were three of 11 Massachusetts Maritime cadets to achieve a perfect 4.00 grade point average during the Fall 2012 semester.  Additionally, junior football placekicker Brandon Rodrigues (Brockton, Mass./Brockton), who became the Academy’s first Capital One Academic All-America honoree in 30 years early last month, added to his impressive resume with a 3.85 GPA for the semester and boasts the highest cumulative GPA among the honorees at 3.936.

“We are extremely proud of the role intercollegiate athletics plays in the overall education of our students at Massachusetts Maritime, and I am very pleased to recognize and congratulate those student-athletes on this achievement,” Buccaneer Director of Athletics Bob Corradi says of the Fall 2012 Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.  “Their selection is a tribute to their hard work both in the classroom and in athletic competition throughout the year.”
