Buccaneer SAAC Hosts Second Special Olympics Basketball Community Games Of Sea Term

The Massachusetts Maritime Student-Athlete Advisory Committee hosted its second Community Games basketball night of the 2017 Sea Term for Special Olympics of Cape Cod on Tuesday evening, as teams from Wareham, Hyannis, Freetown and New Bedford competed in four contests played inside the Clean Harbors Athletic Center.

The Wareham Wild Vikings, Mid Cape Flash, Whitney Wizards and New Bedford Hawks took part in the event, which Massachusetts Maritime has hosted for the last four years.  Buccaneer senior women’s soccer and women’s lacrosse co-captain Kianna Carpenter (Sagamore Beach, Mass./Bourne), junior softball and women’s cross country captain Kaylene Murphy (Randolph, Mass./Ursuline Academy) as well as sophomore men’s lacrosse, softball, baseball and women’s lacrosse standouts Eli DiTullio (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield), Emily Goodwin (Halifax, Mass./Silver Lake), Brandon Gallahue (Plymouth, Mass./Archbishop Williams) and Erica Overstreet (Bridgewater, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham) served as referees for all four games.

The Massachusetts Maritime SAAC also hosted a Special Olympics Community Games night at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center on January 17th, as the same four squads participated in that event.  The Buccaneer SAAC will once again join members of the Cape community in volunteering at the Special Olympics Field Day event at Barnstable High School in Hyannis this May.
