David Hike

Junior David Hike (Riverview, Fla.) took a no-hitter into the seventh before tossing a complete-game one-hitter with four strikeouts as Massachusetts Maritime presented Head Coach Bob Corradi with his 500th career victory with an 8-0 MASCAC triumph over Framingham State last Friday afternoon at Bowditch Field.  Corradi, in his 37th season as the Bucs' mentor, became the 29th active coach in NCAA Division III play to reach the milestone, as the Bucs received a pair of two-run homers off the bats of freshmen Nick Montalto (South Yarmouth, Mass.) and William Shouldice (Rutland, Vt.) in support of Hike, who was named on Monday as the MASCAC Pitcher of the Week for his efforts.  Senior co-captain Tyler Spofford (Sharon Springs, N.Y.) earned a spot on this week's MASCAC weekly honor roll after rapping out seven hits in three contests for Massachusetts Maritime, which stands at 7-10 overall and 2-4 in MASCAC play.  The Buccaneers return home on Tuesday, April 14th to entertain Bridgewater State in a MASCAC twinbill at Commodore Hendy Field beginning at 2:00 p.m. EDT.

Sophomore Jake Bickley (Wilbraham, Mass.) netted four goals, while senior Kevin Schultz (Crofton, Md.) added a hat trick to lift Massachusetts Maritime to a 15-6 non-league victory over Becker last Thursday evening in Leicester, Mass.  Head Coach Barry Joyce's Buccaneers matched their overall win total of last season by netting five unanswered markers in the second quarter to take a 7-1 advantage at the break, and the visitors scored the final three markers of the evening by Bickley, senior John Herman (Stamford, Conn.) and sophomore Craig Nichols (Marshfield, Mass.) in a 1:36 span to account for the final score.  Herman and freshman Will Doucette (Manchester, Mass.) each scored twice and added an assist for three points in the triumph for the Buccaneers, who also received two goals from Nichols as well as single markers off the sticks of junior Brian Burke (Del Mar, Calif.) and freshman Peter Menard (Somerset, Mass.). Sophomore Ryan Linn (Bourne, Mass.) notched three assists for the winners, while junior James Hitchings (Dover, Mass.) recorded his fourth victory of the season in goal for Massachusetts Maritime with an eight-save effort, as the Bucs take a 4-5 overall mark into a Pilgrim League clash with Wheaton on Wednesday, April 15th in Norton, Mass. that begins at 4:00 p.m. EDT.
