Massachusetts Maritime enjoyed a record-setting performance last Sunday afternoon, as Head Coach Jeremy Cameron's Buccaneers collected their first triumph of the young season with a 49-27 non-league victory over MIT at Clean Harbors Stadium. Sophomore Nathan Sherr (Lynnfield, Mass.) set a new Buccaneer single-game rushing record with 325 yards on 26 carries and scored three touchdowns on runs of 1, 3 and 95 yards (the latter tying the second longest scoring scamper in school history), as he helped Massachusetts Maritime set a school record for team rushing yards with 545 on the day. Sherr was the recipient of the Division II-III Gold Helmet Award from the New England Football Writers and the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston for his efforts, as he becomes the fourth Buccaneer to win the prestigious honors, and he was also named as the New England Football Conference and ECAC Division III Northeast Offensive Player of the Week. Sophomore Matt White (Westwood, Mass.) also went over the century mark with 111 rushing yards and two touchdowns for the hosts, who also received a touchdown reception from senior captain Joseph St. Pierre (Beverly, Mass.) and a fourth quarter touchdown run from junior Douglas Dyke (Plainville, Mass.). Junior Jake Bickley (Wilbraham, Mass.) set a new Buccaneer mark for extra points in a game with seven, as Massachusetts Maritime fell one point shy of the school record for most points scored in a contest. The Buccaneers take a 1-1 overall mark into their final non-league match-up of the regular season tomorrow afternoon by heading to Beverly, Mass. to take on Endicott in a game that kicks off at Noon EDT. Sophomore Ryan Fischer's (Marshfield, Mass.) goal 1:36 into overtime lifted Massachusetts Maritime to a 1-0 non-league victory over Eastern Nazarene on Tuesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium, as Head Coach Greg Perry's Buccaneers extended their unbeaten string to three straight with the triumph. Fischer converted a feed from junior Paul Mullis (Marshfield, Mass.) on the game-winner for the hosts, as sophomore Mark Mullaney (Bridgewater, Mass.) made one save to record his first collegiate shutout in goal. Sophomore Kevin McCord (Norwell, Mass.) earned a spot on this week's MASCAC weekly honor roll after netting three goals in two matches last week, including a pair of tallies in a 4-1 triumph at Becker to go with a goal in a 2-2 double overtime tie with Lesley. Massachusetts Maritime opens MASCAC play tomorrow afternoon by heading to Salem, Mass. to take on Salem State in a league clash that begins at Noon EDT. | |||

Freshmen Kim Courcy (Warwick, R.I.) and Rachel Johnson (South Chatham, Mass.) combined for 15 saves in goal in Massachusetts Maritime's 7-0 non-league setback to Coast Guard on Monday afternoon at Cadet Memorial Field in New London, Conn. Courcy made 16 stops in her collegiate debut in net for Head Coach Christine McCarey's Buccaneers in a setback to Lesley last Saturday afternoon, and Massachusetts Maritime begins MASCAC play tomorrow afternoon by entertaining Salem State in a league outing at Clean Harbors Stadium that begins at Noon EDT. | |||

Freshman Suzanne Marino (Kings Park, N.Y.) registered 14 kills and seven digs for Massachusetts Maritime in a tough 3-0 non-league setback to Pine Manor by game scores of 25-17, 27-25 and 27-25 on Monday evening at the PMC Fieldhouse in Chestnut Hill, Mass., as sophomore Samantha Foley (Forestdale, Mass.) chipped in with 10 kills for Head Coach Ashley Lorance's Buccaneers. Freshman Leanne Talbot (Norton, Mass.) recorded a total of 21 set assists on the week for Massachusetts Maritime, which opened MASCAC play on Wednesday evening by dropping a 3-0 decision to Bridgewater State at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center. The Buccaneers return to action on Tuesday, September 22nd by hosting Newbury in a non-league encounter at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center that begins at 7:00 p.m. EDT. | |||

Massachusetts Maritime took took top team honors for the at the Fifth Annual Lt. Travis J. Fuller Invitational last Saturday afternoon along the Cape Cod Canal, , as Head Coach Chris Ryan's squad posted a team score of 48 points to take their own invitational first place trophy for the 12th time in 13 years. Freshman Daniel McCloskey (Wakefield, R.I.) and junior Patrick Dannaher (Arlington, Va.) led the way by placing fourth and fifth, respectively, with times of 28:54 and 28:55 over the five mile layout, while junior Paul Matz (Plainville, Mass.) and freshman Aram Mulhern (Taunton, Mass.) were next in 10th and 12th place, respectively, with times of 29:37 and 30:04. Freshman Chad McCarthy (Sutton, Mass.) rounded out the Massachusetts Maritime scoring by placing 17th with a time of 30:25. The Buccaneers also claimed the inaugural Maritime Cup by besting runner-up Merchant Marine's team score of 57 points, while Emmanuel was third in the final team standings with a score of 73 points. Massachusetts Maritime heads to North Dartmouth, Mass. tomorrow morning to compete in the UMass Dartmouth Invitational that begins at 10:00 a.m. EDT. Massachusetts Maritime posted a third place finish in the final team standings with a score of 90 points at the Fifth Annual Lt. Travis J. Fuller Invitational last Saturday afternoon along the Cape Cod Canal. Senior Lauren Fograshy (Monson, Mass.) led the way for Head Coach Linda Letourneau's Buccaneers with a sixth place individual finish and a time of 21:19 over the 5K layout, while senior Emily Rizzo (Milwaukee, Wis.) and freshman Devon Smith (Hull, Mass.) were next in 17th and 18th place, respectively, with times of 22:02 and 22:04. Senior Kaitlin O'Donnell (Damascus, Md.) and junior Meredith Hall (Duxbury, Mass.) rounded out the scoring with times of 22:49 and 23:25 that were good for 22nd and 27th place, respectively. Massachusetts Maritime travels to North Dartmouth, Mass. tomorrow morning to compete at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational that begins at 10:00 a.m. EDT. The Massachusetts Maritime sailing program has always played a large and successful part of the Academy's athletic tradition, and that looks to continue during the coming year under the watch of Director of Sailing Chuck Fontaine. The Bucs sailed two vessels in the Sou'Wester Regatta in Marion, Mass. on Labor Day and posted a first and fourth place finish in the event. Juniors Rob Gallagher and Devin Tetzlaff, both former standouts at Sandwich High, were among the crew in the inaugural event of the season. | |||
