Buzzards Bay, Mass. --  Massachusetts Maritime sophomore football standout Nathan Sherr is not just another face in the crowd this week.

Sherr is one of six individuals who are featured in the October 5th edition of Sports Illustrated's "Faces In The Crowd" column, as he becomes the first Buccaneer student-athlete in school history to appear in the prestigious national publication.  A native of Lynnfield, Mass. and a graduate of Austin Prep High School, Sherr was honored by Sports Illustrated after rushing for a school-record 325 yards on 26 carries and scoring three touchdowns on runs of 1, 3 and 95 yards (the latter matching the second longest scoring scamper in school history) in Massachusetts Maritime's 49-27 victory over MIT on September 13th.  He was the recipient of the Division II-III Gold Helmet Award from the New England Football Writers and the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston for his efforts, and he was also tabbed as the New England Football Conference and ECAC Division III Northeast Offensive Player of the Week while earning a spot on the D3Football.com Division III National Team of the Week on September 16th.

A transfer from UConn, Sherr led all NCAA Division III running backs in rushing yardage for the first three weeks of the season despite suffering a season-ending knee injury on his second carry of the game in the Buccaneers' 34-23 setback at Endicott on September 19th, and he still ranks second nationally in rushing yards per game with 174.67 per contest.

The October 5th edition of Sports Illustrated, with New York Yankees reliever Mariano Rivera on the cover, will hit newsstands later this weekend, and Nathan's profile can be accessed on-line by logging-on to www.si.com/faces.

Massachusetts Maritime seeks its second straight victory and third in the last four outings on Saturday afternoon when the Buccaneers entertain Coast Guard in a New England Football Conference Bogan Division clash at Clean Harbors Stadium that kicks off at Noon EDT.
