CHICOPEE, Mass. --  Senior Hillary Doucette’s (Manchester, Mass.) man-up free position conversion with 38 seconds remaining proved to be the game-winner and lifted Massachusetts Maritime to a 12-11 come-from-behind victory over Elms in a non-league college women’s lacrosse match played Thursday evening at Leary Field.

The visiting Buccaneers (3-4), who have won three straight for the first time in the program’s three-year varsity history, overcame a 7-4 halftime deficit to even matters at 9-9 on freshman Dahlia Seggelin’s (Sharon, Mass.) goal with 9:07 remaining before taking a 10-9 edge just 1:46 later on sophomore Molly Smith’s (Westwood, Mass.) third marker of the match.  Sophomore Ashley Cava (Wilbraham, Mass.) knotted the score for the host Blazers (2-8) with 2:57 to play with an unassisted goal, but sophomore Janine Prokscha’s (Washington, Conn.) man-up free position conversion just 47 seconds gave Massachusetts Maritime the lead once again.  Sophomore Jillian Pirog (Ludlow, Mass.) forged the final tie of the night for Elms with a man-down tally 26 seconds after Prokscha’s goal, setting the stage for Doucette’s heroics, as the visitors controlled the ensuing draw and were able to run out the clock.

Prokscha finished with a hat trick and an assist for four points to lead the way for the Buccaneers, as Doucette and Smith also collected hat tricks for the winners.  Seggelin notched a pair of goals and an assist to finish with three points for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a goal from freshman Kianna Carpenter (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) and assists off the sticks of freshmen Cassandra Charpentier (New Bedford, Mass.), Ashley Solari (Sandwich, Mass.) and Christina Murphy (Forestdale, Mass.).

Cava and Pirog netted hat tricks in the setback for Elms, which also received a pair of goals and two assists from junior Nora McDonough (South Hadley, Mass.) as well as a pair of markers from junior Kayla Narey (South Hadley, Mass.).  Freshman Emily Dawson (Somers, Conn.) added a tally and two helpers for the Blazers, who also received assists from senior Brianna Lyons (Canton, Mass.) and sophomore Kieran Ramsey (Easthampton, Mass.).

Freshman Melissa Harris (Scituate, Mass.) picked up the win in her collegiate debut in goal for Massachusetts Maritime, as she made 10 saves and also recorded an assist on Smith’s first score of the night.  Sophomore Sarah Carpenter (Vernon, Conn.) made 11 stops in the setback for Elms, as the Blazers outshot the Buccaneers by a 27-26 margin but committed 18 turnovers for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Salem State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference outing on Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 4:30 p.m., while Elms heads to Longmeadow, Mass. on Tuesday afternoon to take on Bay Path in a New England Collegiate Conference match that begins at 4:00 p.m.
