WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Both Massachusetts Maritime cross country teams recorded solid performances at the 22nd Annual Westfield State James Earley Invitational that took place on Saturday afternoon at Stanley Park, as the Buccaneer men finished 21st overall while the Buccaneer women’s squad placed 30th against competition from all divisions.
Senior Robby Galvin (Woburn, Mass.) set the pace once again on the men’s side for Massachusetts Maritime, as he finished 64th individually in a field of 266 runners with a time of 28:32.13 over the 8K layout. Sophomore Daniel Plumb (Hopkinton, Mass.) was next in 84th place with a time of 28:55.16, while senior Chris MacKay (Bethany, Conn.) followed in 120th place with a time of 29:43.87. Freshman Alex Imperillo (Chelmsford, Mass.) and sophomore Kyle Hansen (North Chelmsford, Mass.) rounded out the Buccaneer scoring with respective 149th and 152nd place times of 30:48.28 and 30:59.37, as Trinity took top honors in the event by edging out runner-up Williams by three points (74-77) and topping third place Norwich (112) by 38 points.
Sophomore Meaghan Hamilton (Braintree, Mass.) led the way for a fifth straight week on the women’s side for Massachusetts Maritime, as she covered the 5K layout in a time of 22:09.42 to record a 166th place finish. Sophomore Heather Seggelin (Sharon, Mass.) and senior Kaylene Murphy (Randolph, Mass.) were next with respective 185th and 213th place times of 22:50.54 and 24.58.25, while junior Jill Ethier (Portsmouth, R.I.) and sophomore Catherine O’Brien (North Reading, Mass.) rounded out the Buccaneer scoring by posting respective 237th and 243rd place times of 28:53.54 and 31:13.20. Trinity also took top honors in the women’s race with a score of 56 points, as the Bantams outdistanced runner-up University of New England (136) and third-place Worcester State (174).
Both Massachusetts Maritime squads wrap up regular season competition on Friday afternoon by heading into Boston to compete at the Emmanuel Saints Invitational at Franklin Park that begins at 4:00 p.m.
