O'Brien Doused As Part Of Kay Yow Cancer Fund's "Chillin4Charity Cold Water Challenge"
Massachusetts Maritime Assistant Director of Athletics Trish O’Brien picked the perfect day to get soaked for a great cause on Wednesday afternoon, as the Salem State basketball Hall of Famer accepted the Chillin4Charity Cold Water Challenge in support of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. O’Brien, who came to the Academy two years ago after serving as Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Framingham State, accepted the challenge of Manhattanville College Head Women’s Basketball Coach Kate Vlahakis, who served as an assistant with the Rams during O’Brien’s tenure. O’Brien was doused with a large bucket of cold water by Buccaneer Director of Athletics Bob Corradi and Equipment Manager Kevin Conrad, and she subsequently issued a direct challenge to a pair of New England women’s basketball coaching legends, Andy Yosinoff of Emmanuel College and Judy Blinstrub of Babson College, to take the plunge as well. Chillin4Charity is a nationwide campaign aimed to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer and is under the umbrella of the world renowned Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Participating programs donate money directly to the fund. Chillin 4 Charity began in June at the University of Arizona, where Wildcat Head Coach Niya Butts was the first to get soaked in ice water for the great cause.
