Sophomore Nick Levitre (Grafton, Mass.) scattered five hits and struck out seven over 6 1/3 innings of work to lift Massachusetts Maritime to a 4-3 MASCAC victory over MCLA in the opening game of a league twinbill Sunday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field, as the Buccaneers presented Head Coach Bob Corradi with his 499th career win in the process. Senior co-captain Tyler Spofford (Sharon Springs, N.Y.) sparked a three-run sixth inning rally for the hosts with a two-out RBI double, and junior David Hike (Riverview, Fla.) came on to record the final two outs and pick up the save. Massachusetts Maritime, now 6-8 overall and 1-2 in MASCAC play, continues a four-game homestand on Wednesday, April 8th when the Buccaneers entertain Coast Guard at Commodore Hendy Field and attempt to present Coach Corradi with his 500th career victory beginning at 3:00 p.m. EDT. | ||

Junior Brian Burke (Del Mar, Calif.) netted a pair of goals and an assist for three points, while fellow junior James Hitchings (Dover, Mass.) made 16 saves in goal to lift Massachusetts Maritime to its third victory of the spring last Tuesday afternoon with a 7-5 non-league triumph over Salem State at Alumni Field in Salem, Mass. Hitchings made a total of 44 stops in three contests on the week, including 15 saves in a 12-7 setback to Babson and 13 saves in Saturday's 9-4 setback to MIT, the first two Pilgrim Lacrosse League outings of the year for Head Coach Barry Joyce's Buccaneers. Massachusetts Maritime, now 3-5 overall on the spring, heads to Leicester, Mass. on Thursday, April 9th for a non-league match-up with Becker that begins at 7:30 p.m. EDT. | ||

The Massachusetts Maritime men's outdoor track and field team placed eighth of 20 teams competing at the Fitchburg State Jim Sheehan Invitational last Saturday afternoon in Fitchburg, Mass. Freshman James Hutchinson (Pembroke, Mass.) led the way for the Buccaneers with a second place finish in the javelin, posting a mark of 47.55 meters in the event, while sophomore Rory O'Donnell (Somerset, Mass.) added a fourth place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 12.93 meters. Freshman Chris Sullo (Canton, Mass.) recorded a pair of top 10 finishes for Massachusetts Maritime on the day, as he placed fourth in the high jump (1.78 meters) and 10th in the 110 meter hurdles (19.63), while fellow freshmen Kevin Quinn (Barrington, R.I.) and Bill Sharp (Miami, Fla.) finished ninth and 11th, respectively, in the hammer throw (34.16 meters) and javelin (42.40 meters). The Buccaneers placed second among four MASCAC squads competing in the event, as Southern Maine took top team honors on the men's side. Sophomore Meredith Hall (Duxbury, Mass.) led the way once again on the women's side for Massachusetts Maritime, as she placed eighth in the javelin with a mark of 28.12 meters. Fellow sophomore Allison Condino (Fitchburg, Mass.) posted a mark of 18.74 meters on the day as well for Co-Head Coaches Chris Barry and Cathy Lohse-Whitelaw's Buccaneers, who travel to North Dartmouth, Mass. on Saturday, April 11th to participate in the UMass Dartmouth Invitational that begins at 10:00 a.m. EDT. | ||

The 2009 Massachusetts Maritime Academy Athletics Golf Invitational is set for Monday, July 27th at the Brookside Golf Club in Bourne, Mass. This year's event will benefit Buccaneer student-athletes in the sports of baseball, soccer and track & field.
