Junior Corey Murphy (East Wareham, Mass.) tossed a complete-game five hit shutout and struck out six to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a 4-0 non-league victory over Emerson on Tuesday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field. Juniors Nick Levitre and Greg Wiggin each rapped out two hits and drove in a run for Head Coach Bob Corradi's Buccaneers, who also received a pair of hits off the bat of junior Andrew Saari (Framingham, Mass.) and an RBI from fellow junior Michael Vargas (Natick, Mass.) in support of Murphy, who improved to 2-2 overall on the spring and has allowed just 10 hits in his last 24 2/3 innings of work. Massachusetts Maritime, which stands 6-9 overall and 2-2 in MASCAC play, hosts Framingham State in a league twinbill on Saturday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field beginning at Noon EDT. | |||

Sophomore Kyle Lersch (Suffolk, Va.) netted four goals and added an assist for five points to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a 14-10 non-league victory over Becker on Tuesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium, as junior Craig Nichols (Marshfield, Mass.) added a hat trick as well in the second triumph of the spring for Head Coach Barry Joyce's Buccaneers. Senior Connor Burke (Del Mar, Calif.) chipped in with a pair of markers as well for the hosts, who also received a goal and an assist from junior Ryan Linn (Bourne, Mass.) and a pair of helpers off the stick of freshman Kevin Flanigan (Sandwich, Mass.). Senior James Hitchings (Dover, Mass.) made 14 saves in goal for Massachusetts Maritime, which continues Pilgrim Lacrosse League play on Saturday afternoon by heading to Babson Park, Mass. to take on Babson in a conference outing that begins at 1:00 p.m. EDT. | |||

Sophomore Holly McLaughlin (Belmont, Mass.) enjoyed a career-best day with six hits and three RBI in Massachusetts Maritime's non-league doubleheader setback to Becker on Thursday afternoon at Russell Field in Leicester, Mass., as Head Coach Ashley Lorance's Buccaneers also received three hits from freshman Janelle Beaulieu (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) as well as the first collegiate homer off the bat of freshman Meghan Thibeault (Scituate, Mass.). Senior Jess O'Meara (Stoneham, Mass.) added a pair of hits for the visitors, who also received an RBI off the bat of freshman Erin Eastman (Harwich, Mass.). Massachusetts Maritime returns home on Saturday afternoon to host Framingham State in a MASCAC twinbill at Alison Rollins Field that begins at Noon EDT. | |||

The Massachusetts Maritime sailing team enjoyed a solid weekend of competition in two different events, as Director of Sailing Chuck Fontaine's Buccaneers placed seventh in 25th Admiral Alymer's Trophy while notching a sixth place performance at the New England Dinghy Tournament at Bowdoin. Sophomores Graham Philpot (Laconia, N.H.) and Jason Pollock (Cataumet, Mass.) combined to post a score of 103 points for the "A" boat for Massachusetts Maritime during the Admiral Alymer's Trophy, while the tandem of sophomore Patrick Morrissey (Quincy, Mass.) and freshman Brooke Johnson (Hingham, Mass.) notched a score of 129 points in the "B" vessel. The Duxbury, Mass. freshman duo of Michael Reney and Leo Connolly paced the "A" boat at the New England Dinghy Tournament with a score of 41 points that was good for fourth place in the division, while fellow freshmen Terence Clarke (Durham, N.H.) and Andrew Labbe (Warwick, R.I.) posted a score of 96 points in the "B" boat. Massachusetts Maritime will be in competition in three different locations this weekend, as the Buccaneers will compete at the 68th UConn New Dinghy, the 71st MIT Oberg Trophy and the Brandeis Invitational. | |||

track and field team enjoyed one of the best days in program
history last Saturday afternoon at the UMass Dartmouth Corsair
Classic, as the Buccaneer men placed fourth overall and the women
11th in competition involving 13 total teams.
Junior Rory O’Donnell (Somerset, Mass.) led
the way on the men’s side by taking top honors in the triple
jump with a mark of 13.15 meters, as he also finished third in the
high jump (1.78 meters) and added a fifth place performance in the
long jump (5.73 meters) in earning the nod as the MASCAC Outdoor
Field Athlete of the Week for the second time this season.
Sophomore Chris Sullo (Canton, Mass.) added a
second place effort in the high jump (1.83 meters), while fellow
sophomore Chris Dintino (Mashpee, Mass.) added a
third place finish in the hammer throw (35.45 meters) and a fourth
place performance in the shot put (11.63 meters) for Co-Head
Coaches Chris Barry and Cathy
Lohse-Whitelaw. Junior Meredith
Hall (Duxbury, Mass.) continued her impressive season on
the women’s side for Massachusetts Maritime, as she placed
fourth in the javelin with a mark of 32.86 meters. The
Buccaneers return to action Saturday morning by heading to New
London, Conn. to participate in the Connecticut College Silfen
Invitational that begins at 11:00 a.m. EDT.

Both Massachusetts Maritime crew squads enjoyed solid performances on the Merrimack River last weekend while competing at UMass Lowell along with Colby, Roger Williams and Coast Guard. Head Coach Alex Machi's Buccaneers took the top two spots in the men's second novice four and added runner-up efforts in the women's second novice four, women's novice four and men's novice eight, respectively. Massachusetts Maritime will be in action on Sunday morning in Worcester, Mass., as the Buccaneers will compete against Clark, Amherst, Brandeis and Southern New Hampshire. | |||

Five Massachusetts Maritime student-athletes will assume key leadership positions within the Academy's Regiment of Cadets during the 2010-11 academic year. 2/C Jon White (Lynnfield, Mass./Men's Soccer) has been selected as the Executive Officer, while 2/C Michael Tanner (Andover, Mass./Football) will serve as Operations Officer. 2/C Allison Condino (Fitchburg, Mass./Volleyball) will serve as Adjutant, while 2/C Men's Soccer and Outdoor Track & Field standouts Rory O'Donnell (Somerset, Mass.) and Brian Reske (Duxbury, Mass.) will serve as Chief Mate and Facilities Engineering Operations Officer, respectively. Congratulations to this quintet as they continue to bring pride to the Buccaneer tradition! | |||
