Men's Lacrosse

James Hitchings

Sophomore Ryan Linn's (Bourne, Mass.) man-up goal with eight seconds remaining capped a four-goal fourth quarter comeback to lead fifth-seeded Massachusetts Maritime to a 10-9 victory over fourth-seeded Plymouth State in quarterfinal round action of the 2009 ECAC Division III New England Championships Wednesday evening at Panther Field in Plymouth, N.H.  Head Coach Barry Joyce's Buccaneers trailed 9-6 heading into the final 15 minutes of action, but sophomore Jake Bickley (Wilbraham, Mass.) pulled the visitors to within a pair in the opening 1:16 of the frame and junior Connor Burke (Del Mar, Calif.) netted two tallies in just over a minute midway through the period to even matters.  Linn then converted a feed from junior Brian Burke (Del Mar, Calif.) on the deciding marker for Massachusetts Maritime, which overcame a trio of three-goal deficits in the contest.  Brian Burke added a hat trick to go with his assist for four points for the Buccaneers, who also received two tallies from Linn as well as goals off the sticks of sophomore Craig Nichols (Marshfield, Mass.) and freshman Will Doucette (Manchester, Mass.).  Junior James Hitchings (Dover, Mass.) collected his seventh win of the season in goal with a 15-save effort for Massachusetts Maritime, which takes a 9-6 mark and a five-match winning streak into semi-final round play of the ECAC New England Championships on Saturday afternoon in heading to Beverly, Mass. to take on top-seeded Endicott beginning at 3:00 p.m. EDT.

Baseball

Mark Mozelak

Massachusetts Maritime closed out the 2009 season with a pair of victories, as Head Coach Bob Corradi's Buccaneers rapped out a combined 42 hits and scored 38 runs in notching a 15-1 non-league triumph over Lasell and a 23-13 non-league win over Newbury at Commodore Hendy Field.  Senior co-captain Mark Mozelak (New Hartford, Conn.) closed out his career by collecting eight hits in his final 11 at-bats, as he came within one double of tying the NCAA Division III single-game record of five two-baggers in the victory over Lasell.  The Bucs recorded 10 doubles as a team in that triumph (two shy of the NCAA single-game mark), as senior co-captain Tyler Spofford (Sharon Springs, N.Y.) and sophomore Wil Rodriguez (Lowell, Mass.) each had three hits to back a solid effort by sophomore Corey Murphy (East Wareham, Mass.) on the mound, as he fanned eight over seven innings in topping the Lasers.  Spofford and junior Joe Albano (Agawam, Mass.) each rapped out four hits (including a home run) in the win over Newbury, as Massachusetts Maritime recorded a season-high 23 hits and also received a round-tripper off the bat of freshman Nick Montalto (South Yarmouth, Mass.).  Sophomore Neil Patnaude (North Andover, Mass.) picked up the triumph on the mound in the season finale for the Buccaneers, while junior David Hike (Riverview, Fla.) earned his second save of the spring.  Corradi's crew collected 12 victories on the season, as the long-time Bucs' mentor will bring 505 career wins into his 38th campaign on the diamond in 2010.
