Freshmen Matthew Spinazzola (Melbourne, Fla.) and Jonathan Emond (Green Harbor, Mass.) hooked up on a 32-yard touchdown pass (their third scoring connection in the last two weeks) in the fourth quarter, as Massachusetts Maritime's comeback fell just short in a 13-7 New England Football Conference Bogan Division setback to Westfield State last Friday evening at Alumni Field in Westfield, Mass.   Junior Douglas Dyke (Wrentham, Mass.) and freshman Deonte Fielder (Haines City, Fla.) combined for 143 rushing yards on the night for Head Coach Jeremy Cameron's Buccaneers, as senior captain Howard Hayes (Westport, Conn.) and sophomore Mike Bois (Lakeville, Mass.) each registered eight total tackles.  Senior Ryan Howley (New Fairfield, Conn.) collected three tackles for losses to extend his conference lead to 13 in that category, while junior Andy Hirko (Uxbridge, Mass.) recorded four tackles and a pair of interceptions.  Massachusetts Maritime hosts Maine Maritime in the 37th Annual Admiral's Cup clash tomorrow afternoon as part of Homecoming festivities at Clean Harbors Stadium that kicks off at Noon EDT.

Men's Soccer

Goals by sophomores Kevin McCord (Norwell, Mass.) and Ryan Fischer (Marshfield, Mass.) over the final 3:48 of action lifted Massachusetts Maritime to a 2-0 non-league victory over UMass Dartmouth last night at Cressy Field in North Dartmouth, Mass.  Both markers were set up on feeds by junior Paul Mullis (Marshfield, Mass.), as McCord scored in the 87th minute and Fischer followed less than two minutes later with an insurance tally.  Sophomore Taylor Wyman (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) made five saves to pick up his second victory and first career shutout for Head Coach Greg Perry's Buccaneers, who travel to Fitchburg, Mass. tomorrow afternoon to take on Fitchburg State in a MASCAC match that begins at Noon EDT.

Vanessa DiDomenico 

Sophomore Vanessa DiDomenico (Wrentham, Mass.) notched her first goal of the season in Massachusetts Maritime's 6-1 MASCAC setback to MCLA last Saturday afternoon at Shewcraft Field in North Adams, Mass.  Freshman Rachel Johnson (South Chatham, Mass.) made 20 saves for Head Coach Christine McCarey's Buccaneers in a 9-0 non-league setback to Suffolk on Wednesday evening at Dilboy Stadium in Somerville, Mass., and Massachusetts Maritime returns to action this evening by hosting Fitchburg State in a MASCAC match at Clean Harbors Stadium as part of Homecoming festivities that begin at 6:00 p.m. EDT.

Massachusetts Maritime wrapped up its MASCAC slate on Monday afternoon with a 3-0 league setback to Salem State at Twohig Gymnasium in Salem, Mass.  Junior co-captain Victoria Presutti (Marshfield, Mass.) registered three kills, two digs and a service ace in the setback for Head Coach Ashley Lorance's Buccaneers, who also received two kills, two digs and a service ace each from sophomore Samantha Foley (Forestdale, Mass.) and freshman Suzanne Marino (Kings Park, N.Y.).  Freshman Laura Basile (Cambridge, Mass.) posted three digs for the visitors, who also received four set assists each from freshmen Leanne Talbot (Norton, Mass.) and Joanne Robery (Plainville, Mass.).  Massachusetts Maritime travels to New London, Conn. tomorrow morning for a non-league tri-match with host Coast Guard and Becker that begins at 11:00 a.m. EDT.

Men's Cross Country

Massachusetts Maritime posted a strong ninth place finish of 23 teams competing at the 14th Annual Westfield State James Early Invitational last Saturday afternoon at Stanley Park in Westfield, Mass.  Junior Patrick Dannaher (Arlington, Va.) once again led Head Coach Chris Ryan's Buccaneers, as he placed 35th overall with a time of 27:46.61 over the 8K layout.  Fellow junior Paul Matz (Plainville, Mass.) followed in 48th place with a time of 28:15.52, while freshmen Chad McCarthy (Sutton, Mass.) and Daniel McCloskey (Wakefield, R.I.) were next in 67th and 70th places, respectively, with times of 29:00.34 and 29:08.77.  Junior Brian Maniglia (Pennsville, N.J.) rounded out the scoring for Massachusetts Maritime by placing 84th overall with a time of 29:25.68, as the Buccaneers were the third MASCAC team to cross the finish line of five conference squads competing in the event.  Massachusetts Maritime will be idle until next Saturday, October 24th when the Buccaneers head back to Westfield, Mass. to compete in the MASCAC Championships at Stanley Park that begin at Noon EDT.

Women's Cross Country      

Lauren Fograshy 

Senior Lauren Fograshy's (Monson, Mass.) 58th place individual finish lifted Massachusetts Maritime to 18th place among 25 entrants at the Westfield State James Early Invitational last Saturday afternoon at Stanley Park in Westfield, Mass., as she posted a time of 21:48.05 over the 5K layout.  Fellow senior Emily Rizzo (Milwaukee, Wis.) was next in 117th place with a time of 23:23.52 for Head Coach Linda Letourneau's Buccaneers, while senior Kaitlin O'Donnell (Damascus, Md.) followed in 122nd place with a time of 23:31.77.  Freshman Sophie Enman (Marblehead, Mass.) and junior Kathleen Micheli (North Attleboro, Mass.) rounded out the Buccaneer scoring by placing 197th and 222nd, respectively, with times of 25:55.31 and 27:37.94.  Massachusetts Maritime will be idle until next Saturday, October 24th when the Buccaneers head back to Westfield, Mass. to compete in the MASCAC Championships at Stanley Park that begin at Noon EDT.

Massachusetts Maritime placed fourth on the J-109 over the Columbus Day weekend at the Storm Trysail Regatta that sailed out of the Larchmont Yacht Club in Larchmont, N.Y.  Co-Head Women's Coach Davis Sanford guided the Buccaneers during the competition, which included senior Bailey Gingras (Weybridge, Vt.), juniors Devin Tetzlaff (Forestdale, Mass.), Rob Gallagher (Sandwich, Mass.), sophomores Bradley Shepherd (Winter Park, Fla.) and Graham Philpot (Laconia, N.H.) as well as freshman Andrew Thibeault (Cotuit, Mass.).  Massachusetts Maritime will host the Great Herring Pond Open Regatta this weekend in Bourne, Mass.

Both Massachusetts Maritime crew teams had solid performances last Sunday afternoon at the New Hampshire Championships in Pembroke, N.H.  The women's novice eight, led by freshman coxswain Tess McNally (Marstons Mills, Mass.), placed third overall in the event with a squad consisting of sophomore Emily Welsh (Shelton, Conn.) and freshmen Delphine Estebe (Pompano Beach, Fla.), Danielle Guidry (Nashua, N.H.), Alicia Tarr (Danvers, Mass.), Meghan Thibeault (Scituate, Mass.), Emma King (Princeton, Mass.), Lauren Denapoli (Boston, Mass.) and Janeen Manghis (Nantucket, Mass.) for Head Coach Kelley Lessard's Buccaneers.  The men's novice eight, led by freshman coxswain Jay Mitchell (Swannanoa, N.C.), also placed third overall, while the men's open four consisting of seniors Michael Cotter (Methuen, Mass.) and Erik Foley (Charlton, Mass.) along with juniors Eric Fant (Sutton, Mass.) and Jason Ellershaw (Chester, Mass.), placed 12th overall in the competition.  Both Buccaneer squads will compete in the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta this weekend in Cambridge, Mass.
