NFL High School Football Camp

NFL High School Football Camp

An NFL High School Player Development Camp was held at Ellis Field on the campus of Massachusetts Maritime Academy June 1-5. The event was hosted by MMA Head Football Coach Jeremy Cameron and sponsored by the NFL. More than 150 high school players attended. Students entering their sophomore, junior or senior years were eligible. There was no cost to attend the camp. Sponsored by the National Football League, the High School Player Development camp provided incoming high school sophomores through seniors a program that focused on character development and specific football skill training by position. Each participant will have gained full awareness of what is necessary to become a successful collegiate student-athlete. The program consisted of two elements - character development and on-field training. The first day of the program coaches discussed character issues in small group sessions for a 3-hour period as well as distributed student planners in order to assist players with time management. The other four days allowed players to split time focusing on one offensive and one defensive position. Seven participants went on to compete at Foxboro Stadium where they won the 7-on-7 competition advancing to the national 7-on-7 tournament in July with all expenses paid by the NFL. The All-Star squad consisted of: Jamal Johnson WR (Brockton High School), Sam Victoria WR (Brockton High School), Weslee Galloway WR (Brockton High School), Ethan Barnes DB (New Bedford High School), Alex White DB (Brockton High School), Carlito Weaver LB (Brockton High School), John Gomes QB/WR (Barnstable High School), Jarryn Edwards RB (New Bedford High School), Frank Mogavero RB (South Shore Regional Voke), Joseph Williams-Artis RB/LB (New Bedford High School), Shane Costley TE (Carver High School), Brandon Holbrook WR (Carver High School), Isaiah Voegeli WR (Barnstable High School).
