New England Regionals Down to Three as Ramapo Bests Keystone 7-4

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass  – The No. 5 Ramapo College baseball team won their second game of the day 7-4 over three-seeded Keystone College at the New England Regional. The Roadrunners improve to 35-14 overall, tying a program record for wins in a season, while the Giants wrap up the season 34-12 overall.

Bobby Shannon got the Roadrunners on the board in the bottom of the second inning with a RBI double that plated Connor Walsh for a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, Ramapo added four runs. Matt Chemis walked before he scored on a fielding error off the bat of Anthony KuzmenkoJoe Maugeri then laced his ninth triple of the season to the right field wall allowing Kuzmenko to score for a 3-0 lead. The triple set the Roadrunners single season record. Walsh then launched a ball into deep center field that bounced off the fence for a triple as Maugeri scored before a throwing error on the play allowed Walsh to score for a 5-0 lead.

Keystone scored single runs in three straight innings to come within two heading into the seventh inning.  In the fourth inning, Dakota McFadden scored on a sac fly to get the Knights on the board before McFadden drove home Jandi Pena in the fifth inning with a RBI ground out 5-2. In the top of the sixth inning, Eric Drzewiecki would score on an infield ground out with a close play at first. Walsh fielded the ball and flipped the ball to relief pitcher Riley Weis for the first out of the inning before Wise fired home to Nick Camilleri to apply the tag as the Giants' Bray Curreri tried to score from second base.

In the bottom of the seventh, Kuzmenko would round third base on Maugeri's double and get caught in a run down between third base and home plate before he scored when the throw home was misplayed putting Ramapo up 6-3. Maugeri went to third on the play before Vincenzo Sita drove him home with a RBI single for a 7-3 lead.

Curreri added one run for the Giants in the top of the ninth inning with a solo home run, his third home run of the season as Ramapo held a 7-4 lead. Weis recorded a strikeout looking to end the game and earn the first win of his college career. He struck out two, walked three and scattered three hits in five innings of work.

Starting pitcher Kevin Stewart earned a no-decision as he worked the first four innings of action and only surrendered one hit. He struck out four, walked five and let up two runs. Ramapo pounded out 11 hits in the game as Walsh finished 3-4 with two runs scored and one RBI while Maugeri, Shannon and McNaughton each collected two hits a piece.

Ramapo will now have a rematch against No. 1 UMass Boston tomorrow at 12 p.m. in at Whitehouse Field in Harwich, Mass. The winner will advance to the NCAA Regional Championship tomorrow scheduled for 3:30pm.
