WATERVILLE, Maine -- The Massachusetts Maritime volleyball completed second round play at the Thomas Invitational on Saturday afternoon, as the Buccaneers dropped a 3-0 decision to Elms in the opening contest before falling by a 3-1 margin to the host Terriers in the final match of the day at Mahaney Gymnasium.
Freshman Suzanne Marino (Kings Park, N.Y.) notched 11 kills, 18 digs and eight service aces on the afternoon for the visiting Buccaneers (0-3), who fell to Elms by game scores of 25-16, 25-9 and 25-16. Massachusetts Maritime dropped the opening game to Thomas by a 25-12 margin before claiming a 25-16 triumph in the second game, but the Terriers notched 25-15 and 25-23 wins in the final two games of the match.
Sophomore Samantha Foley (Forestdale, Mass.) collected 10 kills and five service aces for the Buccaneers, who also received five kills each from junior Victoria Presutti (Marshfield, Mass.) and freshman Alexa Prendergast (Cumberland, R.I.). Freshman Leanne Talbot (Norton, Mass.) added 20 set assists and 14 digs for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received four kills from junior Christine Egbert (Meadowbrook, Pa.) and 10 set assists from freshman Joanne Robery (Plainville, Mass.).
The Buccaneers open their home slate on Thursday evening when Massachusetts Maritime entertains Suffolk in a non-league match at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center that begins at 7:00 p.m.
