WATERVILLE, Maine --  The Massachusetts Maritime volleyball team opened its 2009 schedule on Friday evening by dropping a 3-0 non-league decision to Maine-Presque Isle by game scores of 25-10, 25-7 and 25-16 in opening round play of the Thomas Invitational at Mahaney Gymnasium.

Freshman Suzanne Marino (Kings Park, N.Y.) notched five kills and a service ace in the setback for the Buccaneers (0-1), who also received three kills and a service ace from sophomore Samantha Foley (Forestdale, Mass.).  Freshman Joanne Robery (Plainville, Mass.) collected 11 set assists in her collegiate debut as well for Massachusetts Maritime.

The Buccaneers continue second round play at the Thomas Invitational on Saturday, as Massachusetts Maritime squares off with Elms at 11:00 a.m. before taking on host Thomas at Mahaney Gymnasium beginning at 3:00 p.m.
