Butler Named As New England Football Conference Defensive Player Of The Week

Massachusetts Maritime junior defensive end Walter Butler was named as the New England Football Conference Defensive Player of the Week Saturday evening for his efforts in the Buccaneers' 21-13 victory at Worcester State.

A native of Bourne, Mass. and a graduate of Bishop Stang High School, Butler registered a career-high 14 total tackles, including six solo stops and a sack, and set up what proved to be Massachusetts Maritime's winning touchdown by blocking a field goal with just over three minutes remaining in the game, turning a 13-7 deficit into a 14-13 lead.

Butler ranks third on the team in total tackles this season with 36 to date, including 26 solo stops, and has blocked a pair of kicks in six outings.

Massachusetts Maritime, winners of three of its last four contests, returns home on Saturday, October 16th to host Fitchburg State in an NEFC Bogan Division clash at Clean Harbors Stadium that kicks off at Noon.  The Buccaneers, 3-3 overall, are tied for second in Bogan Division play at 2-1.
