Butler Named As New England Football Conference Defensive Player Of The Week
Massachusetts Maritime junior
defensive end Walter Butler was named as the New
England Football Conference Defensive Player of the Week Saturday
evening for his efforts in the Buccaneers' 21-13 victory at
Worcester State.
A native of Bourne, Mass. and a graduate of Bishop Stang High
School, Butler registered a career-high 14 total tackles, including
six solo stops and a sack, and set up what proved to be
Massachusetts Maritime's winning touchdown by blocking a field goal
with just over three minutes remaining in the game, turning a 13-7
deficit into a 14-13 lead.
Butler ranks third on the team in total tackles this season with 36
to date, including 26 solo stops, and has blocked a pair of kicks
in six outings.
Massachusetts Maritime, winners of three of its last four contests,
returns home on Saturday, October 16th to host Fitchburg State in
an NEFC Bogan Division clash at Clean Harbors Stadium that kicks
off at Noon. The Buccaneers, 3-3 overall, are tied for second
in Bogan Division play at 2-1.
