Maritime Sailing Opens 25-26 Season in Maine and Rhode Island

CASTINE, ME -- The Buccaneers traveled to Maine Maritime on Saturday and Sunday for the Harman Cup and Penobscot Bay Open and finished seventh place and ninth place, respectively.

In the Harman Cup, the Bucs picked up 26 points with fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth-place finishes in the four events. Maritime fell short of sixth place by one point to Northeastern and beat out Boston University by three points. Harvard, Vermont, and Bowdoin finished in the top three spots.

The Penobscot Bay Open was cut short with no races on the scheduled second day of the Open on Sunday. In the 16 events on Saturday, Maritime totaled 204 points between the two boats with a best finish of seventh place on multiple occasions. In the 10-team field, the Bucs were eight points short of UMass Amherst for eighth place, and finished 92 points ahead of Bates, who were in 10th at 296 points.

 

BRISTOL, R.I. -- At the Mount Hope Bay Invitational, hosted by Roger Williams, the Buccaneers finished in 12th and 16th in a field of 16 boats. The Bucs 12th-place boat picked up 149 points, three behind Salve Regina in 11th, and two points ahead of another Salve boat in 13th. Their 16th-placed boat was 18 points behind another Salve boat for 15th.

 

Bucs Sailing is scheduled to compete in the Hatch Brown Trophy at MIT and the Barnett Trophy at Bowdoin on Saturday, September 13th.
