Buccaneers Lose to MCLA on the Road

NORTH ADAMS, Mass – Friday evening, the Maritime women's soccer team travelled to MCLA to take on the Trailblazers in women's soccer conference play. With both teams looking for their first conference win of the season both offenses were able to get off double digit shots and the defenses hung tough, until the second half that is, when MCLA scored the first goal of the game, which would prove to be the game winner. When the 90 minutes of regulation had passed, the Trailblazers walked off the field with their first MASCAC victory over the Bucs, 2-0.

Maritime led the way in shots with 18 total, 11 on target. Junior, Emma McNally (Mashpee, Mass) led the attack for the visitors with four shots on target. Sophomore, Anna Deely (Marstons Mills, Mass) had three shots on target of her own, unable to find the back of the net. In goal, Mikayla Houlihan (Middleboro, Mass) had another great night for the Bucs, saving five of the seven shots she faced. Unfortunately, one of the goals she allowed was on an attempted clear by one of her defenders that ended up in the goal.

For MCLA, Hannah Van de Water scored the lone offensive goal for the hosts. She totaled four shots, two of which were on target. MCLA's offense mustered 12 shots in the game, seven found Houlihan. In goal for the Trailblazers, Megan Richardson had a great night of her own, making 11 saves in the win.

In the first half there were a total of 19 shots combined by the two teams with neither team able to break the scoreless tie as both keepers stood on their head and the defenses were stout.

The second half was much more of the same for the defenses as there were a total of 11 shots between the two teams. In the 58th minute, Van de Water broke through to give her team the 1-0 lead. Later in the half, in the 89th minute, Maritime was credited with an own goal giving MCLA the 2-0 lead which would end up being the final score.

With the victory, MCLA improved to 2-7 overall and 1-2 in conference on the season. Maritime drops to 1-7, 0-3 in conference with the loss.

The Buccaneers are back home for their next match against Westfield State on Saturday, October 6th at 5pm at Clean Harbors Stadium in MASCAC play.
