Buccaneers Drop Home Opener to Sharks

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- The Buccaneers women's soccer team opened its home slate on Wednesday evening against Simmons. With both teams looking for their first win after shutout losses on Saturday, the Sharks for the best of the Bucs spoiling Maritime's first home game, 3-0.

How It Happened

The Bucs home opener started slowly, with the match remaining scoreless through the first 25 minutes. Then, in the 26th minute, Askren scored her first career goal and the first goal of the Sharks' season to put them up 1-0. In the final moments of the first half, Krupnikoff took a corner and buried the ball in the net from the corner to give Simmons a 2-0 lead at halftime.

In the second half, the Buccaneers had their opportunities but could not find the back of the net. In the 80th minute, Askren scored her second to seal the Sharks win, 3-0.

Maritime is on the road for their next match on Saturday at Salem State to open conference play against the Vikings at noon.
