Maritime Finishes 5th at Regis Invitational
WESTON, Mass -- The Buccaneers took part in the Regis Spring Classic at Regis College on Friday afternoon with the men's teams finishing in fifth place overall.
The Bucs picked up 44 points across all of the men's events, clearing Bowdoin College by six points and finishing 13 points shy of host Regis.
Liam Higgins won the javelin throw with a best toss of 64.26 meters, .14 meters ahead of the second-place finisher from Bridgewater State. Higgins also won the shot put event with a best throw of 13.72 meters, .50 meters ahead of the second-place finisher from Bowdoin. In the discus throw, Liam was sixth overall.
Tyler Fountain was the sixth-place finisher in the javelin, tossing just shy of 50 meters at 49.99.
In the men's long jump, Timothy Heath finished 6th overall with a jump of 5.99 meters, .16 meters short of fifth place.
John Shields finished seventh in the triple jump event with a best of 11.91 meters.
Long-distance runner Spencer Reese finished 5th overall in the 5000-meter run with a time of 16:57.58. Reese finished third in the 3000-meter steeplechase, three seconds behind the Worcester State runner in second.
In the 4x400 meter relay, the Buccaneers finished second overall, losing out to Worcester State with a time of 3:54.14.
On the women's side, Bridgette Boriolo finished ninth in the triple jump with a 9.68 meter jump.
In the javelin throw, Sydney Sawyer picked up a top-10 finish with a toss of 22.96 meters.
