Baseball Sweeps MCLA in Conference Doubleheader
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass -- After getting rained out on Saturday, the Buccaneers and MCLA Trailblazers met at Williams College on Monday to complete their conference series with a doubleheader. Down one game to none in the series after losing on Friday night at home, the Bucs came out with avengence in the doubleheader taking the first game, 7-3, and in the second game, Brett Velzis's bat did the talking as he hit two home runs, a grand slam and a thre-run home runs, to lead the Bucs past MCLA in game two, 11-7, to take the series two games to one.

- Evan Vieira, Aaron Cole, Brett Velzis, and Michael Estrada all had two hits in the game. Michael Logiudice, Jake Houston, and aidan Weir all had one.

How It Happened
The Bucs scored in the top of the second inning after a scoreless first. Logiudice reached on an error that allowed Velzis to score and give the Bucs an early 1-0 lead.
In the top of the fourth, the Bucs laid it on, scoring three runs. Estrada doubled in Velzis, Logiudice singled in Estrada, and Houston doubled in Logiudice to give the Buccaneers a 4-0 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, the Trailblazers scored twice to cut the Maritime lead to two runs, 4-2.
After a scoreless fifth, the Bucs scored two more in the top of the sixth. The first run scored on a Houston sacrifice fly and the second on a Vieira single that plated Weir. Maritime led 6-2. In the bottom of the frame, MCLA got a run back on a Sardo ground out, and the lead for Maritime was three, 6-3.
In the top of the seventh, Velzis added an insurance run with an RBI single to bring in Cole, who had tripled in his at bat. With a 7-3 lead, Dean sat the Trailblazers down in order in the bottom of the seventh to tie the series at a game apiece heading to the second game of the doubleheader.

How It Happened
The Trailblazers took a two-run lead in game two, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first on a Bissaillon single that scored Castillo and Warriar.
The MCLA lead lasted until the top of the third when the Bucs scored four times to take a 4-2 lead. Pietrafesa hit a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Weir, and then Velzis hit a three-run home run to put the Buccaneers up by two. The Bucs lead didn't last long as MCLA plated four runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to take a 6-4 lead. Castillo singled a run in, Vargas knocked in two, and Rodriguez brought in one more to put the hosts back up through three.
In the top of the fourth, the lead flip-flopped once again, with Maritime scoring five runs. Pietrafesa walked with the bases loaded, and Velzis came up and hit his second home run of the day, a grand slam, his third of the season and fourth of his career, to put the Bucs up 9-6.
Weir added a run for Maritime in the fifth, grounding out to second base and bringing in Logiudice to make the score 10-6.
In the bottom of the sixth, Warriar reached on an error that allowed a run to score and cut the deficit to three runs, 10-7.
Maritime struck again in the top of the seventh when Logiudice scored one a wild pitch to extend the lead back to four runs, 11-7. Nick Iannone came in in relief of Huffman in the bottom of the seventh and struck out the side to preserve the four-run lead and sweep the conference doubleheader over MCLA.

The Buccaneers are back home on Tuesday for a conference game against Bridgewater State at 4pm.
