Buc Ball Sweeps Sunday Doubleheader over Rams

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- Baseball, looking to bounce back from a Friday loss in the series opener to Framingham, did just that on Sunday, sweeping the doubleheader, 2-1 and 2-0. Hunter Dean and Sam Huffman combined for 13 innings pitched, 14 strikeouts, and allowed one run.

  • Daniel Robichaud and Scott Paquette had hits.

How It Happened

Velzis game maritime a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when he grounded out to first base, which allowed White to score from third. 

In the bottom of the fourth, amidst seven straight strikeouts for Dean on the mound, Estrada stole home on a double steal by the Buccaneers to put them up 2-0 after four.

In the top of the seventh, Paquette drove in a run on a ground out to second that scored Cox from third. Dean went on the finish off the inning, leaving the tying run at third base, and the Bucs finished off the 2-1 win in the first game of the doubleheader.

  • Lucas Basile had three hits in the game. Massimo Mondi, Steven Burbank, John Lynch, and Colin Johnson had a hit apiece.
  • Basile stole a bag for the Rams.

 

How It Happened

In the bottom of the first inning, Velzis hit a two-run home run, driving in white and himself to take a 2-0 lead.

Huffman, Baiardi, and the Bucs defense did their part the rest of the way to win the game, 2-0, sweep the doubleheader, and win the series.

Maritime is off until Friday when they open a conference series with Worcester State in Buzzards Bay at 4pm.
