Bucs Pick up Hard Fought Road Win in Boston

BOSTON, Mass -- Women's lacrosse played their final non-conference game of the season on Saturday evening in Boston against the Emerson Lions. In a game that included 100 goal milestones for senior captains Lindsy Durgin and Allie Dickinson, the Bucs also won their third game of the season, thanks to a goal in the game's waning moments, 11-10.

Inside The Numbers

Maritime

  • Lindsy Durgin led all scorers with four goals in the win. Allie Dickinson and Karah Deveau scored three times, and Brady Deschamps netted one.
  • Durgin had two assists in the game, and Mackenzie Hawkins, Dickinson, Caleigh Tompkins, and Deveau had one.
  • Tompkins led all players in the game with five ground balls. Deveau and Beal had four.

Emerson

  • Ava Dellicompagni scored a team-high three goals. Callie Krosin, Ava Selby, and Laina Gustafson scored two, and Holland Rutter scored one.
  • Dellicompagni had three assists in the game, and Laura Lovell, Krosin, Gustafson, and Bella Vaccari had one.
  • Spotts, Krosin, and Dellicompagni all had four ground balls to lead the Lions. 
  • Dellicompagni led all Lions with five draw controls.
  • Defensively, Selby, and Grace Danehy had two caused turnovers.
  • In total, Emerson picked up 29 ground balls, succeeded on 15 of 23 clearances, won 13 draw controls, and took 36 shots in the game.

 

How It Happened

The Buccaneers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first five minutes of the game on goals from Dickinson and Deveau. Emerson held the Bucs there until they were able to tie the game at 2-2 with goals from Dellicompagni at 5:40 and 2:27. In the last two mintues of the first quarter, the Bucs got a goal from Deschamps to take a 3-2 lead but Krosin scored for the hosts 44 seconds later to tie the game at 3-3 going to the second quarter.

In the second, Selby gave Emerson a 4-3 lead just over three minutes in. Durgin tied the game at 4-4 less than a minute later. The teams traded goals once again, with Gustafson scoring off the draw following Durgin's score, and then after six minutes, Durgin scored again to tie the game at 5-5. Gustafson scored a short-handed goal at 3:55, and then in the final 26 seconds of the first half, Durgin and Deveau scored to tie the game at 6-6 and then give the Bucs a 7-6 lead at the break.

Deveau scored for the Buccaneers to open the second half of play at 8:43 of the third to put the Bucs up by two goals, 8-6. Krosin got the Lions within one, 8-7 at 7:54. Two minutes later, Durgin scored her 100th career goal to make it a two-goal game again. In the last 63 seconds of the third, Emerson went on to tie the game at 9-9 with goals from Rutter and Dellicompagni. 

After six scoreless minutes in the fourth, Dickinson scored again, which marked her 100th career goal, at 6:32 to put the Bucs up one goal. Selby matched Dickinson 32 seconds later, and the teams were tied, 10-10, with six minutes to play. At the 2:20 mark of the fourth, Dickinson scored to make the game 11-10, which went on to be the final score as Beal and the Buccaneer defense held off the Lions.

The Buccaneers are at Bridgewater State on Tuesday, April 22nd, to begin their final week of the regular season in conference against the Bears at 7pm.
