Alex Butler


Junior Alex Butler (Bourne, Mass.) rushed for a career-high 124 yards and a pair of touchdowns in Massachusetts Maritime's 42-31 New England Football Conference Bogan Division setback to Fitchburg State last Saturday afternoon at Commander Ellis Field.  Freshmen Matt White (Westwood, Mass.) and Nick Montalto (South Yarmouth, Mass.) combined for 137 rushing yards and a pair of scores for Head Coach Jeremy Cameron's Buccaneers, who rushed for 331 yards on the day, the fifth highest single-game total in school history.  Sophomore Jake Bickley (Wilbraham, Mass.) added a career-best 39-yard field goal for the hosts, who also recevied 40 passing yards and a two-point conversion rush from senior Joe DeFrank (Morgantown, Pa.).  Junior Jim Erlwein (Livingston Manor, N.Y.) paced the Bucs defensively with 13 total tackles (including eight solo stops), while freshman Walter Butler (Bourne, Mass.) registered eight solo tackles for Massachusetts Maritime, which closes out its 2008 home schedule on Saturday, November 1st by hosting Framingham State in an NEFC Bogan Division clash at Commander Ellis Field that kicks off at 2:00 p.m. EDT.

Tim Meighan 

Senior co-captain Tim Meighan (East Bridgewater, Mass.) made a season-high 14 saves in Massachusetts Maritime's tough 1-0 MASCAC setback to Worcester State last Saturday afternoon at Coughlin Field in Worcester, Mass., as the two teams were scoreless into the 61st minute of play.  Head Coach Greg Perry's Buccaneers close out the 2008 season on Saturday, November 1st by heading to Bridgewater, Mass. to take on Bridgewater State in a MASCAC clash that begins at 11:00 a.m. EDT.

Colleen Fissette


Freshman Colleen Fissette (Dracut, Mass.) posted a career-high 25 saves in Massachusetts Maritime's 7-0 MASCAC setback to Worcester State last Saturday afternoon at Commander Ellis Field, earning a spot on the league's weekly honor roll for her efforts.  Head Coach Christine McCarey's Buccaneers close out their inaugural varsity campaign on Saturday, November 1st by hosting Bridgewater State in a MASCAC outing at Commander Ellis Field beginning at 10:00 a.m. EDT.

Samantha Foley 

Massachusetts Maritime closed out its first varsity campaign in two seasons on Tuesday evening by dropping a 3-0 non-league decision to Wentworth at Tansey Gymnasium in Boston.  Sophomore Victoria Presutti (Marshfield, Mass.) registered three kills and two digs in the setback to Head Coach Ashley Lorance's Buccaneers, while sophomore Liz Kenny (Quincy, Mass.) and freshman Samantha Foley (Forestdale, Mass.) each chipped in with two kills for the visitors.

Men's Cross Country

Massachusetts Maritime placed fourth during competition at the 2008 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Westfield State at Stanley Park in Westfield, Mass. last Saturday afternoon.  Senior Kyle Ingersoll (Wakefield, Mass.) Head Coach Chris Ryan's squad with his second straight all-conference performance, as he placed fifth individually with a time of 26:59.35 over the 8K layout. Freshman Jonathan Quigley (Braintree, Mass.) was next in 15th place with a time of 27:59.14, while sophomores Paul Matz (Plainville, Mass.) and Patrick Dannaher (Arlington, Va.) followed in 23rd and 26th place, respectively, with times of 28:22.53 and 28:34.69. Junior Matthew Sturgis (Cummaquid, Mass.) rounded out the scoring by finishing 29th individually with a time of 28:45.63 for Massachusetts Maritime, which posted a total team score of 98 points on the day.  The Buccaneers return to Westfield's Stanley Park on Saturday, November 1st to compete in the 2008 New England Alliance Championships beginning at 11:30 a.m. EDT.

Women's Cross Country    

Patricia Malagrino

Massachusetts Maritime placed sixth during competition at the 2008 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Westfield State at Stanley Park in Westfield, Mass. last Saturday afternoon.  The trio of senior Patricia Malagrino (Barrington, R.I.), freshman Emily Burbank (Yarmouthport, Mass.) and junior Lauren Fograshy (Monson, Mass.) placed 20th, 21st and 22nd, respectively, to lead the way for Head Coach Linda Letourneau's Buccaneers, who posted a team score of 126 points on the day. Malagrino posted a time of 21:57.16 over the 5K layout, while Burbank and Fograshy trailed that mark by two and four seconds, respectively. Senior Emily Rizzo (Milwaukee, Wis.) and junior Kaitlin O'Donnell (Damascus, Md.) rounded out the scoring for Massachusetts Maritime by placing 27th and 36th, respectively, with times of 22:17.85 and 23:56.59.  The Buccaneers return to Westfield's Stanley Park on Saturday, November 1st to compete in the 2008 New England Alliance Championships beginning at 10:45 a.m. EDT.

Poor weather spoiled Saturday's planned opening day in the McMillan Cup at the United States Naval Academy, and improved weather conditions Sunday brought light winds and sunny skies.  Head Coach Chuck Fontaine's Buccaneers were led by cadets Philip Johnson, Frank Hennigan, Philip Scott, (Bourne, Mass.), Brian Kirkwood, (Poulsbo, Wash.), Kevin Dineen, Chris Morrow, (Eugene, Ore.) James Sjolund, (Nantucket, Mass). and George Fleischfresser.  The fifth place finish by the Buccaneers qualified Massachusetts Maritime for participation in the 2008 Kennedy Cup.

Head Coach Oliver Deibert's Buccaneers dropped a MAC decision to Penn State last Saturday afternoon in State College, Pa., as the Nittany Lions notched a 2205-1961 triumph in the smallbore and a 2243-2029 victory in air competition.  Massachusetts Maritime returns to action on Sunday, November 2nd with a MAC match against Wentworth in Braintree, Mass. beginning at 9:00 a.m. EST.
