May 2, 2009

Senior outfielder Tyler Spofford and junior pitcher David Hike represented Massachusetts Maritime on the 2009 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference Baseball all-conference squad announced over the weekend, as both individuals earned second team honors for their performances this spring.

Spofford, a native of Sharon Springs, N.Y. and a graduate of Berkshire Prep, led the Buccaneers at the plate with a .379 average in 28 contests, as he recorded 36 hits and 95 at-bats and also led the way with 29 runs scored, 19 RBI, 51 total bases and 13 stolen bases. Spofford rapped out five doubles, two triples and a pair of homers as well during his final collegiate season, earning a spot on the MASCAC weekly honor roll on two occasions along the way.

Hike, a native of Riverview, Fla. and a graduate of Riverview High School, posted a team-high four victories and two saves to go with a 4.12 earned run average on the mound for Massachusetts Maritime, as he made 12 total appearances (nine starts) and struck out 40 in 54 2/3 innings of work. Hike, who also earned all-MASCAC accolades as a sophomore, was named as the conference's Pitcher of the Week on April 13th after tossing a complete-game one-hit shutout in an 8-0 triumph at Framingham State that gave Buccaneer Head Coach Bob Corradi his 500th career victory.

Massachusetts Maritime posted an overall mark of 12-16 in Corradi's 37th campaign this past spring, including four wins in MASCAC action.
