The start of the 2008 Massachusetts Maritime Football season is a little over a week away, and final preparations are being made for the Bucs' opening contest next Thursday, September 4th with the second annual "Chowder Bowl" affair with New York Maritime. Kickoff for the second series meeting between the two squads at Rheinhart Field in Throggs Neck, N.Y. is set for 7:00 p.m. EDT.
With a solid combination of experienced veterans and talented youth dotting a 90-plus man roster, Head Coach Jeremy Cameron has high hopes for the 2008 edition of Massachusetts Maritime gridiron, and the fourth year mentor has tabbed a pair of those veterans to key leadership roles, as seniors Kyle Audette (Mattapoisett, Mass./Dartmouth) and Colin Teehan (Plymouth, Mass./Boston College) will serve as co-captains for the Buccaneers this fall.
"Kyle and Colin are two individuals who understand the example that needs to be set on and off the field for this program to continue to move forward," Cameron says of his co-captains. "I am confident that they will continue to lead us in that positive direction."
Massachusetts Maritime will be looking to avenge a 10-6 setback to New York Maritime's Privateers that came last August 31st before a sellout crowd at Commander Ellis Field, as The Empire State's entrant in the Chowder Bowl begins its third season of varsity competition this fall.
Following a second non-league road contest on Saturday, September 13th at MIT, the Bucs open their home slate on Saturday, September 20th with their final non-conference test of the regular season against Endicott that kicks off at 2:00 p.m. EDT at Commander Ellis Field.
