Buzzards Bay, Mass.-- Three members of the Massachusetts Maritime football team were honored today with selection to the 2008 New England Football Conference Bogan All-Divisional squad as voted on by the league's coaches.
Junior Jim Erlwein (Livingston Manor, N.Y./Sullivan West) earned all-divisional accolades for the second straight season after posting 83 total tackles in 10 contests, including 60 solo stops, to go with four tackles for losses totaling 73 yards and one sack. Erlwein, a three-time NEFC honor roll selection during the year, added a forced fumble and a fumble recovery to go with a pass break-up as well.
Fellow junior Nick Stralka (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) also represents Massachusetts Maritime's defensive unit on the second-team all-divisional squad, as he led Head Coach Jeremy Cameron's Buccaneers with 88 total tackles (52 solo) in nine games. Stralka, who also returned punts this fall, registered one sack and one interception on the defensive side while blocking four kicks along the way on special teams.
Sophomore Jake Bickley (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) was selected as the second team all-Bogan Division punter, as he averaged 38.1 yards per punt on 45 attempts. Bickley, who booted a career-best 70-yarder against Framingham State on November 1st, recorded 15 punts inside the opponents' 20-yard line that featured five touchbacks, and he also handled the Bucs' placekicking duties, converting four of five attempts this year.
