BUZZARDS BAY, Mass.-- Freshman Justin Laliberte (Easthampton, Mass.) scored a pair of goals to lift Westfield State to a 3-0 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference men's soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon at Commander Ellis Field.

Laliberte gave the visiting Owls (5-3-1, 1-1-1 MASCAC) the only goal they would need in the 21st minute of play for a 1-0 advantage at the break, and fellow freshman Tim Parsons (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) extended that edge to 2-0 in the 75th minute with an unassisted tally. Laliberte closed out the scoring for the afternoon with his second marker that came with 2:43 remaining on a feed from junior Ben Berthiaume (Swansea, Mass.).

Senior Mike Thompson (Feeding Hills, Mass.) recorded the shutout win in goal for Westfield State with four saves on the day, while freshman Corey Cameron (Westfield, Mass.) also made four stops in net for the host Buccaneers (3-8-1, 0-3 MASCAC) as each team had 10 shots on goal for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime will be idle until next Saturday afternoon when the Buccaneers travel to North Adams, Mass. to take on MCLA in a MASCAC outing that begins at 2:00 p.m., while Westfield State heads to Babson Park, Mass. on Wednesday afternoon for a non-league match with Babson that begins at 3:30 p.m.
