In close competition Saturday, November 8 at the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, the MMA Buccaneer rifle team took third behind teams from Coast Guard and New York Maritime.

The Buccaneers were led by Michael Surette, (Lynn, Mass.) who finished with a total of 550 points in the air rifle category, the second highest score of all three teams for the afternoon. Surette compiled 540 points to led the Bucs in the smallbore competition.

MMA collected a total of 2090 points in the air rifle category, just six points behind second place N.Y. Maritime (2096). The Bears from the United States Coast Guard Academy topped the air rifle scoring with 2193 points.

In smallbore shooting Coast Guard claimed a 2188-1974 victory over the Bucs. New York Maritime did not compete in the smallbore category.

Kevin Geisel, (Gloucester, Mass.) shot second for the Bucs in the smallbore (510) and in the air rifle (541). Geisel was followed by Junita Goldman, (Oakdale, CT.), who collected 485 points in the smallbore and 518 in the air rifle category. Ethan Lowe, (Wareham, Mass.) finished with 439 points in the smallbore and 481 in the air rifle.
