Buccaneers Sail in Penobscot Bay Open at Maine Maritime Academy
Sep 22, 2008

A lack of wind slowed racing on opening day Saturday, September 13 allowing only a single A Division race. Sunday was overcast and rainy with a southerly breeze of about 15 knots with occasional gusts to 20 knots as the day progressed. Besides the first race's modified windward/leeward, all of the courses were twice around windward/leeward marks taking the fleet deep into Smith's Cove. Increasing winds later in the day created additional challenges for the competing sailors.

Massachusetts Matitime Academy finished 15th overall in the weekend event, which was won by the University of Rhode Island.

Tufts University claimed first in the A Division race, with the Buccaneers sailing 15th overall. Rob Gallagher (Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) skippered the MMA boat with Allison Dombrowski as crew.

In the B Division the University of Rhode Island took the top spot, with the Buccaneers sailing 15th. Graham Philpot skippered the MMA boat, with Jason Pollock as crew.
