How It Happened
A pitching duel ensued in game one between Gagnon and Klemp, with the two combining for 11 strikeouts and nine runners left on base.
Looking for a way to score in a scoreless game, the Buccaneers found a way in the bottom of the sixth inning. With McDonald on first as a pinch runner, Gale laid down a bunt and reached first with a hit. McDonald went for third with no one covering and with the left fielder coming in to try and make a play, Gagnon threw the ball away into left field. This allowed McDonald to come in to score, and the speedy Gale to come all the way around to score the second run. The Bucs led, 2-0, after six innings.
In the top of the seventh, Bridgewater led off with a single and had a runner reach third, but Klemp faced four batters in the inning, retired three of them, and left a runner on third. The Bucs picked up the win in game one, 2-0.
