Softball Splits with Framingham State Keeping Postseason Hopes Alive
BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- On senior day for Rubi Butler, the Buccaneers split their conference series with Framingham State with a 7-5 loss in game one and a 5-4 win in game two. The win over the Rams was the first for the Bucs since 1999 and marked their program best 18th win of the season.

How It Happened
Pepe drove in two runs in the top of the first inning on a single to right field, giving Framingham a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. In the bottom of the inning, Booker knocked in Burton on a double to right center field, followed by Booker scoring on an error by the Rams. The teams were tied at 2-2 after one inning.
In the top of the third, Pepe drove in another run on a single to make it 3-2 in favor of the Rams.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Buccaneers took their first lead of the day. Burton scored on a wild pitch to draw the game even at 3-3. Then, Klemp singled up the middle to bring in Booker and give the Buccaneers a 4-3 lead at the end of five.
The Bucs lead didn't last long, as Framingham scored two in the top of the sixth inning. Grassia singled to center field, driving in Cadena, and Grassia scored on a Buccaneer error. Framingham was back on top, 5-4. In the bottom of the frame, Booker tripled down the right field line, and Kerecz came in to score, tying the game, 5-5.
After retiring the side in the top of the seventh, the Buccaneers came up in the seventh with an opportunity to win in walk-off fashion. Unfortunately, the Bucs left the winning run at third base, and the game went to extra innings.
In the top of the eighth, Grassia hit a ball down the right field line that bounced around in the corner, and she ended up coming around to score on an inside-the-park home run, and bring in two runs, giving the Rams a 7-5 lead. Maritime was retired in order in the bottom of the eighth, and the Rams took game one, 7-5.

How It Happened
After scoreless innings in the first and second, and seven straight strikeouts by Catlett to open the game, the Rams scored three runs in the top of the third. Pepe reached on a fielder's choice, and Etemad-Gilbertson came in to make it 1-0. Behrikis then grounded out to short, and Rooney came in to bring the score to 2-0. Finally, Carignan singled to left, bringing in Pepe to give the Rams a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the inning, Booker hit a sacrifice fly to right field and Warren came in to bring the score to 3-1.
The fourth and fifth innings went scoreless, and in the top of the sixth, the Rams extended their lead back to three runs. On a double steal, Grassia scored on a throwing error by the Buccaneers and made the score 4-1. But, in the bottom of the inning, the Bucs made things interesting, scoring three runs of their own. Patane drove in two runs on a single down the right field line; McDonald and Burton came in to score. Later in the inning, Patane came in to score on a wild pitch by Gauthier to tie the game at 4-4.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Buccaneers got runners on first and third with two outs in the inning. With Sarah Holler at the plate, Gauthier threw another wild pitch and Burton hustled home from third to walk the game off the earn the Bucs a 5-4 win over Framingham State. The win marked the first win for the Bucs over the Rams since 1999.

The Buccaneers host Curry College on Wednesday in a non-conference doubleheader at Rollins Field beginning at 4 pm.
