Freshman Kyle Moon (Wilmington, Mass.) hooked up with fellow freshman Kyle Rowe (Plymouth, Mass.) on an 18-yard scoring strike late in the fourth quarter in Massachusetts Maritime's 30-6 New England Football Conference Bogan Division setback to Coast Guard last Saturday afternoon at Cadet Memorial Field in New London, Conn. Freshman Nick Montalto (South Yarmouth, Mass.) rushed for 72 yards in the setback for Head Coach Jeremy Cameron's Buccaneers, while freshman Richard Thomson (Yarmouthport, Mass.) registered 11 total tackles (including eight solo stops) to go with a pair of pass break-ups in his first collegiate start, earning a spot on the NEFC Defensive Weekly Honor Roll for his efforts. Junior Nick Stralka (North Kingstown, R.I.) recorded 10 total tackles for Massachusetts Maritime, which returns home on Saturday, October 11th to host Westfield State in an NEFC Bogan Division clash at Commander Ellis Field beginning at 12:30 p.m. EDT. | ||

Sophomore Matt Patten (Weymouth, Mass.) netted a goal and two assists to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a 3-2 non-league victory over Newbury last Thursday afternoon at Pine Manor Field in Chestnut Hill, Mass., as sophomore Kyle Sheehan (Bridgewater, Mass.) and freshman Kevin McCord (Norwell, Mass.) also netted markers for Head Coach Greg Perry's Buccaneers. Freshman Mike McCarthy (Norwell, Mass.) notched an assist in the triumph for the visitors, as fellow freshman Corey Cameron (Westfield, Mass.) made five saves to pick up the win in goal. McCord tallied Massachusetts Maritime's lone goal on a Patten assist in a 1-1 double overtime draw with Lesley last Monday evening at Edwards Field in Cambridge, Mass., and Cameron made four stops in a 3-0 MASCAC setback to Westfield State last Saturday afternoon at Commander Ellis Field. The Buccaneers return to action on Saturday, October 11th by heading to North Adams, Mass. to take on the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in a MASCAC outing at 2:00 p.m. EDT. their inaugural varsity campaign in search of their second victory

non-league match at Commander Ellis Field beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Massachusetts Maritime continued its first varsity season in two years last week with a pair of 3-0 setbacks to Salem State and Becker, as sophomore Victoria Presutti (Marshfield, Mass.) and freshman Samantha Foley (Forestdale, Mass.) each recorded five kills for Head Coach Ashley Lorance's Buccaneers. Sophomore Allison Condino (Fitchburg, Mass.) notched nine set assists for Massachusetts Maritime, which hits the road for MASCAC matches at Westfield State on Tuesday, October 7th and at Framingham State on Thursday, October 9th before venturing to Farmington, Maine for a tri-match at Maine-Farmington over the weekend.

Both Massachusetts Maritime squads posted solid performances at the Gordon Pop Crowell Invitational last Saturday afternoon in Wenham, Mass., as Head Coach Chris Ryan's men's squad placed fifth of 24 teams in the competition, led by senior Kyle Ingersoll (Wakefield, Mass.), who finished 23rd individually with a time of 27:52. Sophomore Paul Matz (Plainville, Mass.) was next in 28th place with a time of 28:12 for the Buccaneers, while freshman Jonathan Quigley (Braintree, Mass.) finished 40th with a time of 28:26. On the women's side, junior Lauren Fograshy (Monson, Mass.) paced Head Coach Linda Letourneau's crew with a time of 21:47 that was good for 83rd place individually, as Massachusetts Maritime placed 16th overall in the 25-team field. Senior Emily Rizzo (Milwaukee, Wis.) was next in 98th place with a time of 22:03 for the Buccaneers, as both teams will travel to Westfield, Mass. on Saturday, October 11th to participate in the Westfield State James Early Invitational. The Massachusetts Maritime sailing team, under the guidance of Head Coach Chuck Fontaine, finished first in the Last Chance Regatta held Saturday, October 4 at the Low Tide Yacht Club in New Bedford, Mass. The Buccaneers were the last boat to start the 16.8 mile race over a course that saw 40 degree wind shifts and wind speeds that varied between 10-15 knots, as handicaps dictated the starting position. Onboard the Dejavu, MMA skipper Rob Fritzen successfully defended last year's Last Chance Regatta victory. Charlie Baum handled navigation and tactics for the Bucs, with a crew of Philip Scott (bow), Mitchell Menard (mast), Mike Powers (pit), Jarred Crosby (trim), Chris Morrow (trim), Christina Colarusso (grind), Hannah Leight (runner ease), Eric Pattison (runner trim) and Max Weinreb (sewer). | ||

Massachusetts Maritime dropped a close MAC match-up with Princeton last Saturday afternoon in Princeton, N.J., as Head Coach Oliver Deibert's Buccaneers posted a 4-high team score of 1,903 in falling just shy of the Tigers' total of 1,996 points. Sophomore Michael Surette (Lynn, Mass.) posted the high individual score for Massachusetts Maritime with 518 points, while junior Kevin Geisel (Gloucester, Mass.) was next with 498 points. Senior Junita Goldman (Oakdale, Conn.) was next with 464 points for the Buccaneers, who will compete against John Jay in a MAC match on Saturday, October 11th at the Rifle Range in Alumni Gymnasium. | ||

Massachusetts Maritime began its 2008-09 campaign by participating in the Textile River Regatta on Sunday afternoon on the Merrimack River in Lowell, Mass. Freshman Conor Benoit (Eastham, Mass.) led the men's novice four to a seventh place finish for Head Coach Kelley Lessard, while fellow freshman Adam Geoffroy (Belchertown, Mass.) led the novice eight to a 16th place finish in competition for the Buccaneers. Both Massachusetts Maritime squads will next compete at the Snake Regatta in Worcester, Mass. on Sunday, October 12th. | ||
