Duffy Homers in Loss to Brandeis

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- Bucs Baseball hosted Brandeis on Tuesday in a single nine-inning contest after their doubleheader was postponed on Saturday. Two high-scoring innings for the Judges proved to be costly for the Buccaneers as Brandeis left foggy Buzzards Bay with a 14-3 win. • Quill drove in four runs. Ben Kuja, Harrington, and Keith Lee all drove in two runs, and Noah Koong drove in one.
  • Koong scored three times for Brandeis. Four players scored twice, and three others scored once.
  • Quill, Kuja, and Aronwald all had a stolen base in the game.

How It Happened

The game remained scoreless through the first three full innings of play. Then, in the top of the fourth, Quill reached on a Bucs error that allowed Koong to score the first run of the game.

In the top of the fifth, Brandeis scored six runs. The first two runs came in on a Lee two-RBI single, and later in the inning, Quill hit a grand slam to center field. The Judges led 7-0 after five innings.

Things calmed down in the sixth and seventh with no runs on either side. After the Bucs retired the Judges in the top of the eighth, they got runs on the board themselves in the bottom of the eighth inning. Duffy, who had struggled at the plate throughout the game, got a hold of a pitch and put it over the right-center field wall to cut the deficit to four runs, 7-3.

In the top of the ninth, Brandeis scored seven more runs, most with two outs in the inning, to take a 14-3 lead. The fog got heavy quickly, and with two outs in the top of the ninth, the game was called. The Judges left Buzzards Bay with a 14-3 victory.
