Bucs Split with Rams in MASCAC Showdown

FRAMINGHAM, Mass -- Maritime traveled to central Mass on Tuesday to play Framingham State in a conference doubleheader with the Rams. After leading 4-0 in game one, the Bucs relinquished the lead in the bottom of the seventh, losing game one 5-4. In game two, Maritime trailed 2-1 and pulled off a comeback of their own, taking game two, 7-3.

  • Nicholas Kutcher had three hits in the win. Massimo Mondi, Christian Cox, and John Lynch each had one hit.
  • Mondi, Kutcher, Rosco Palmer, and Ryder Brown all drove in one run in the win.
  • Cox scored three times, and Lynch and Colin Johnson scored once.
  • Cox and Johnson each stole one base in the game.

 

How It Happened

The Buccaneers scored four runs in the top of the first thanks to Kaczynski's fifth home run of the season that drove in three. Later in the inning, Beechin grounded out to first, allowing McCarthy to score from third. In the bottom of the first, the Rams scored two back on a Kutcher single that brought in Cox to score, and a Palmer sacrifice fly. The Bucs led 4-2 after one. 

Framingham made a push in the middle inning, scoring a run in the bottom of the third and another in the bottom of the fourth, ultimately tying the game at 4-4. 

Still tied heading to the bottom of the seventh, the Rams loaded the bases, and Brown walked to bring in the winning run with two outs. Framingham walked off with the game one win, 5-4.

Maritime

  • Jake Duffy and Nate Kaczynski had two hits in the win. Michael Logiudice and Jason Bouffard each had one hit.
  • Logiudice recorded a double, the only extra-base hit for the Bucs. 
  • Logiudice and Max Dunn drove in runs in the win.
  • Duffy and Bouffard scored twice, and Logiudice, Kaczynski, and Kevin Heine all scored once.
  • Kaczynski stole two bases in the win, and Dunn stole one.

Framingham

  • John Lynch and Scott Paquette had two hits in the loss. Samuel Conrad and Zachary Kern had one hit each.
  • Paquette had a double in the game.
  • Paquette drove in all three Rams.

How It Happened

The Buccaneers scored first in the top of the second inning on a double steal. Cullen Thomas was caught at second, and Heine came in to score the first run of the game. In the bottom of the frame, the Rams scored two runs, both on Paquette's double that brought in Kern and Palmer. Framingham led after two innings, 2-1.

In the top of the third inning, the Bucs scored four times. Logiudice reached on an error, and Duffy and Bouffard came in to score. Then, Dunn reached on a fielder's choice, driving in Logiudice. Later in the inning, Dunn and Kaczynski executed a double steal, with Kaczynski stealing home, giving the Bucs a 5-2 advantage. 

The Rams got a run back in the bottom of the fourth inning when Paquette singled in Palmer to make the score 5-3. 

Maritime scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning, the first on Logiudice's double to left, bringing in Bouffard. The second run of the inning came in on another Framingham miscue on a ball hit by Kaczynski, allowing Duffy to score. The Bucs led 7-3 after six.

In the bottom of the seventh, Shanahan came in for the Bucs and struck out the side to even the conference series at a game apiece with a 7-3 win for Maritime.

 

What's Next

The Bucs open a three-game MASCAC series with Worcester State on Friday at 4pm from Hendy Field.
