SALEM, Mass -- Baseball opened its MASCAC series with Salem State on the North Shore on Friday afternoon. Coming off of a win over Bridgewater State in conference midweek, the Bucs faced a setback against the Vikings, losing 10-0 in the first of three games with Salem.

• Aidan McCarthy recorded the only hit of the game for the Bucs, a double in the seventh inning.
• Michael Logiudice, Jason Bouffard, and McCarthy each reached on a walk in the loss.

Salem

• Yabdriel Gonzalez, Owen Duggan, and Lucas Rincon all had two hits in the win. Ethan Stepputtis, Jack Doyle, and Aidan Lynch all had one hit.
• Gonzalez had a double in the game, the only extra-base hit by the Vikings.
• Duggan drove in three runs, and Gonzalez knocked in two. Michael Buccaro, Antonio Belgrove, Lynch, Rincon, and Jonny Payne all had one RBI.
• Duggan notched the only stolen base in the game.
• Gonzalez scored three times in the victory. Eight other Vikings scored once.

How It Happened

The conference series opener between the Buccaneers and Vikings was status quo through the first three innings of play, with the score remaining 0-0.

In the bottom of the fourth, Salem took a 1-0 lead on an RBI single from Duggan, scoring Gonzalez.

The Vikings opened the floodgates in the fifth, scoring eight runs to take a 9-0 advantage heading to the sixth.

Salem added one run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a wild pitch. After the Buccaneers were retired in the top of the seventh, the game ended by run-rule, 10-0, in favor of Salem, giving the Vikings a 1-0 series lead.
