How It Happened

Clark opened the scoring in the second inning after a scoreless first, and took a 1-0 lead into the third.

The Bucs answered in the top of the third inning on a two-RBI single from White to drive in Loughren and Logiudice. That gave the Buccaneers a 2-1 advantage. In the bottom of the third inning, the game saw its third lead change with the Cougars taking a 4-2 lead thanks to a Maritime miscue that scored two runs and a Hewett RBI double.

The fourth and fifth innings were scoreless, but that was just the calm before the storm as the 4-2 score exploded in the sixth. Maritime scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning. The first came on a Clark error, then two more runs came in on another error by the Cougars. Maritime forced the fourth lead change of the game, taking a 5-4 lead in the inning.

After the Bucs held Clark from scoring in the bottom of the sixth, Loughren blasted a solo home run over the left field fence to extend the Buccaneers lead to two runs, 6-4. But, in the bottom of the seventh, Camara answered with a home run of his own, with the bases loaded, to give Clark the lead once again, 8-6.

The teams weren't done yet! In the top of the eighth, the Buccaneers flip the score on more time, plating seven runs. Duffy hit an infield single to bring in Thomas. Logiudice was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, Kaczynski knocked in two with a double, Logiudice scored on a Clark error, White drove in a run on a single to left field, and Thomas singled to drive in Loughren. When it was all said and done in the top of the eighth, the Buccaneers saw themselves out to a 13-8 lead.

In the top of the ninth, Maritime added an insurance run thanks to a Logiudice double that brought in Duffy to score. Maritime led 14-8 going to the bottom of the ninth. The Cougars did not go down without a fight. In the bottom of the ninth, with their backs against the wall, they scored four times to get within two runs. Sam Wooley was able to shut the door on the comeback bid, and the Bucs left Worcester with a 14-12 win and a 4-3 record.
