Loughren Perfect at the Plate in Bucs Win Over Fighting Scots

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- BucBall hosted Gordon College on Friday afternoon in Buzzards Bay. Sophomore catcher Colsen Loughren was 4-for-4 at the plate, and the game was called after six and a half innings due to score differential as the Bucs fought off the Scots, 21-4.

Inside The Numbers

Maritime

  • Loughren led all players with four hits in the game. Michael Logiudice and Costa Beechin tallied three hits each. Max Dunn had two hits to his credit, and Damon WhiteAidan McCarthyKevin Heine, and Cullen Thomas all had one hit.
  • Loughren recorded a triple and a double in the game. Logiudice and Heine both had a double in the win.
  • Logiudice drove in four runs in the game, and Loughren knocked in three. White, Beechin, and Heine all had two RBI. Jake DuffyRex SullivanNate Kaczynski, Thomas, and Dunn all had one RBI.
  • Loughren scored four times in the game, with Logiudice and Kaczynski scoring three times apiece. Duffy, Beechin, and McCarthy all scored twice, and White, Brayden Ramsey, Heine, Thomas, and Dunn all scored once.

Gordon

  • Tyler Wilson recorded two hits in the loss. Five other Gordon hitters had one hit. 
  • Aaron Ferreira had two RBI in the loss. Wilson and Gabe Fales drove in one each.
  • Cam Wilbur scored twice, and Carter Shin and Wilson scored once.
  • Wilson had the only stolen base for either team in the game.

 

How It Happened

The Bucs scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning.

In the second, Maritime added one run to take a 6-0 lead.

In the third, the Buccaneers exploded for seven runs, jumping out to a 13-0 lead.

Gordon put a run on the board in the top of the fourth inning to make the score 13-1. 

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Maritime scored twice more to extend the lead to 14 runs, 15-1. 

The Fighting Scots scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning, making the score 15-4. In the bottom of the inning, the Bucs exploded again, this time for six runs, extending the lead out to 17 runs, 21-4. 

After a scoreless top of the seventh for Gordon, the game was called due to run-rule with the Buccaneers winning their sixth game of the season, 21-4.

 

What's Next

The Bucs are back home on Sunday, March 22nd, to play VTSU Lyndon in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at noon.
