Bucs Drop a Pair of Conference Games to Bears
BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- The Buccaneers and Bridgewater State met for a conference doubleheader on Tuesday, closing out their three-game series. After winning game one 7-3 on March 24th, the Buccaneers dropped both games to the Bears in the doubleheader, 8-7 and 6-2.

Maritime
- Nate Kaczynski led all hitters with four hits in the game. Aidan McCarthy, Eduardo Correia, Costa Beechin, and Jason Bouffard all had two hits. Kevin Heine added one base-knock.
- Kaczynski hit a home run in the game, his fourth of the season. Jason Bouffard had a double in the loss.
- Kaczynski, Beechin, and Bouffard all drove in two runs, and Correia knocked in one.
- Correia scored twice for the Bucs, and Jake Duffy, Kaczynski, McCarthy, Heine, and Beechin all scored once.
Bridgewater
- Ryan Flaherty, Benjamin Sepeck, and Nick Berube all had two-hit games. Cam Beltramini, Joshua Selander, and DJ Prampin each had one hit.
- Flaherty hit two home runs in the game, and Selander and Prampin hit one home run each. Sepeck added a double to the extra-base hits for the Bears.
- Flaherty drove in five runs in the win. Selander, Prampin, and Berube all drove in one apiece.
- Beltramini, Plaherty, and Prampin each scored twice, and Selander and Berube scored once.
- Berube recorded the only stolen base of the game.
How It Happened
Bridgewater scored three runs in the top of the first, before the Buccaneers came to the plate for the first time. Flaherty hit a two-run home run, and on the following pitch, Selander hit a solo home run to center field.
In the top of the second, the Bears extended their 3-0 lead to 5-0 thanks to a Berube single and a sacrifice fly from Flaherty.
The Bears struck again in the third for one more run on Prampin's home run and led the Bucs 6-0 after two and a half innings of play. In the bottom of the third inning, the Buccaneers clawed back five runs to cut the deficit to one run, 6-5. Kaczynski drove in the first two runs on a two-run home run. Then, Correia singled to left center to bring in McCarthy to make the score 6-3. Beechin and Bouffard followed that with back-to-back RBI singles to bring the score to 6-5.
In the top of the fourth, Flaherty hit his second two-run home run of the game to extend the lead back to three runs, 8-5.
Maritime got a couple of runs in the bottom of the fifth on a Beechin RBI single to score Correia and a Bouffard double that scored Beechin.
Neither team scored in the sixth or the seventh, though both teams threatened, the Bucs even getting the tying run into scoring position, but were unable to score. Bridgewater tied the conference series at a game apiece with an 8-7 win in the first game of the doubleheader.

How It Happened
Bridgewater, as they did in game one, scored in the top of the first inning on a home run. This time, it was a solo homer from Beltramini. In the bottom of the first, Duffy scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 1-1.
In the top of the second, Prampin hit a ground-rule double to left field, bringing in Jasmin to score, and giving the Bears a 2-1 advantage.
After a scoreless third inning, the Bears added one in the top of the fourth on an Espinal sacrifice fly. Bridgewater led 3-1. In the bottom of the fourth, Beeching grounded into a fielder's choice that allowed McCarthy to score from third and cut the Bridgewater lead to one run, 3-2.
The Bucs could not close the gap in the late innings, though they kept the Beards off the board as well. Then, in the seventh inning, Bridgewater struck for three runs, one three RBI singles to take a 6-2 lead. Maritime could not answer in the bottom of the seventh and lost the game, 6-2, and the series, 2-1.

The Buccaneers open a conference series with Anna Maria on Friday, April 3rd, at 4 pm at Hendy Field.
